Celebrity Divorces, Porsha Stewart, and How People Learn About Divorce

[Real Housewives of Atlanta Photo from wikipedia]
How do most people learn that their spouses have filed for a divorce? In most divorce cases, it is fairly simple and straightforward. In other words, in most divorces, the parties tell each other in no uncertain terms about their decisions and all the reasons for it!

But did you hear about how Real Housewives of Atlanta reality t.v. star Porsha Stewart, (shown on the right above), reportedly learned that her husband, former pro quarterback Cordell Stewart had filed for a divorce from her? According to various news reports, Ms. Stewart first learned about it on twitter!!

Every divorce case, whether it involves celebrities or not, is unique. And you should always discuss the facts of your divorce with your own divorce lawyer. But this case certainly involves one of the most unique ways to inform one's spouse about the filing of a divorce! What do you think?

Celebrity Separations and Divorces: Jillian Barberie Reynolds and Grant Reynolds

[Photo of Jillian Barberie Reynolds from wikipedia]
When most folks get divorced, there is little or no fanfare and no public statements issued by publicists. But it is generally not the same for celebrities.

According to various news reports, a representative for actress and t.v. host Jillian Barberie Reynolds announced this week that Ms. Reynolds was divorcing her husband of six years, actor Grant Reynolds. The celebrity couple reportedly has two children.

No matter how a divorce may be announced, here's hoping that this couple, and anyone else going through a divorce, finds peace and happiness in their new lives.

Here's also hoping that if you have any questions about your own divorce from your worthless spouse, "Sluggo," (a celebrity in his own mind), you will avoid public statements, but you will find a good, experienced divorce lawyer near you.

Celebrity Separations and Divorces: Lisa Whelchel

[The Facts of Life Image from wikipedia]
How many of you are fans of the original reality television series Survivor? Did you see last night's episode which featured family visits for cast members? If so, you saw the emotional turmoil on the face of cast member Lisa Whelchel when she ran to her visiting brother's arms! Of course, many of you will remember her from the 1980's television series, The Facts of Life, in which she played Blair.

Not only has the Survivor experience been difficult for Ms. Whelchel, but also it apparently has otherwise been a tough year for her, too. According to various news reports, she is presently dealing with West Nile Virus. In addition, according to reports, Ms. Whelchel, a singer, song-writer, and speaker at Women of Faith Christian conferences, also got a divorce earlier this year.

We still do not know whether she won or how she did on Survivor, but here's hoping that Ms. Whelchel will overcome her illness and deal with any problems associated with her divorce. She seems like a genuinely kind, gentle person. As she has clearly learned, like on Survivor, real life can be tough, too. Sicknesses and divorces can happen to anybody. And those are the real facts of life which we all must face, aren't they?

Celebrity Breakups and Divorces: Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher

[Photo of Demi Moore from wikipedia]
As Augusta, Georgia divorce lawyers, we are often asked: how long does it take to get a divorce?  Well, the answer is: it depends! In other words, there are a lot of factors which can affect how long it takes for a divorce to become final.

For example, have you followed any of the news reports about the separation of actors Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher? According to various news reports, the celebrity couple separated over a year ago and yet, reportedly, their divorce has never been finalized.

Even in a typical Georgia divorce, there are a number of factors, such as whether it is a contested or uncontested divorce, or whether or not the couple is fighting over child custody, which can determine how long the court proceedings can take.

A simple, uncontested divorce can be completed in as little as a couple of months. However, some tough, contested divorces can take a year or longer to complete!

We recommend that you discuss this question, along with all your rights and options, with your own divorce attorney. Hopefully, your divorce won't take as long to complete as some celebrity breakups!

[Photo of Anna Trebunskaya from wikipedia]
Have you heard the sad news about yet another celebrity marriage reportedly biting the dust? This time, according to various news reports, the split is occurring between Dancing with the Stars professional dancers Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts. The couple is reportedly divorcing after a nine year marriage.

While no one knows, or needs to know, what happened here, we have discussed many times before in this divorce blog about the unique stressors which can break up Hollywood marriages. Here's hoping that Trebunskaya and Roberts can each find happiness in the future.

Celebrity Separations and Breakups: Chipper Jones

[Photo of Chipper Jones from wikipedia]
As we have discussed before in this blog about divorce, being a celebrity can present unique challenges for a marriage. It is also interesting to see how various celebrities facing marital problems react to the media spotlight.  Some celebrities shun the media attention; others seem to enjoy the media focus.

In my opinion, Atlanta Braves baseball star Chipper Jones and his spouse have handled matters in the proper way. In short, while various media outlets reported earlier this year that he and his spouse had separated, since then, little or nothing has been reported by either party. And that is the way that such matters should be handled --i.e. privately, between them and their divorce lawyers -- in my opinion!

What do you think?

Divorce Lawyer Advertising, Or How To Find A Good Divorce Lawyer

As you may know from earlier posts, we are father and son divorce lawyers who practice law together in Augusta, Georgia.  In this divorce blog, among other  things, we offer practical tips and information about Georgia divorce law for you to discuss with your own divorce attorneys.  We also sometimes talk about issues presented by celebrity separations and divorces.

As an Augusta, GA divorce attorney, I never cease to be amazed at how our clients find us.  Sometimes, we receive referrals from previous divorce clients, or other people we know.  Other times, folks find us in the telephone book, or through the internet, or even through this divorce blog.

As divorce attorneys, we must frequently re-evaluate how we choose to advertise, or get the word out, about our Augusta law firm.  It appears that things are in transition from the old "let your fingers do the walking through the yellow pages," to a new approach of finding a divorce lawyer through the internet.

Which method of advertising, i.e. telephone book yellow pages, or the internet, would be the best way to provide information about our divorce/family law firm to potential divorce clients "out there?" What do you think is the best way to find a good, inexpensive divorce lawyer in Augusta, Georgia!?

Celebrity Separations and Divorces: Chris Harrison

[Photo of The Batchelor Host Chris Harrison and Prior Contestant Jillian Harris from wikipedia]

Have you heard the sad news this past week about yet another celebrity couple reportedly separating?  According to various news reports, Chris Harrison, the host of the popular reality dating series, The Batchelor, along with its various spin-offs, and his wife of 18 years, are reportedly calling it quits.  (A prior contestant is shown in the above photograph from wikipedia with Mr. Harrison).

Of course, if the couple divorces, this inevitably invites the question of whether or not Mr. Harrison will ever be a contestant on his own program. What do you think?

Celebrity Separations and Divorce: Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook

[Photo of Christie Brinkley from wikipedia]
Have you read or heard about the reported ongoing media "battle" between model-actress Christie Brinkley and her ex-husband, Peter Cook?  According to various news reports, Ms. Brinkley appeared today on N.B.C.'s Today Show with Matt Lauer and expressed her desire for peace with her ex.  Brinkley and Cook had divorced four years ago, but, since then, the two sides have reportedly traded charges over issues involving child support and alleged "bullying" emails, among other allegations.  But we are not here to take sides.  That is not the point of this post about divorce.

Here is our point:  As Augusta, Georgia divorce lawyers, we have sometimes seen some divorces which seem to take on a life of their own.  Such divorces never seem to end.  And it often takes one of the parties to decide to take the high road and end it. Here's hoping that Brinkley and Cook will find peace, end the acrimony, stop the legal fees, and go on with their separate lives -- for their own sakes, and for the sake of their two children.

Celebrity Divorces and Separations: Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere

[Photo of Cindy Crawford from wikipedia]
Successful model and business woman Cindy Crawford was a featured guest this morning on the CBS News morning program.  I had forgotten that, between 1991 and 1995, Ms. Crawford was married to actor Richard Gere.  Following her divorce from Gere, she later re-married and now has a happy marriage and two beautiful children.

Everyone knows about her successful modeling and business career.  But I suspect you didn't know about all the incredible charitable work she does for medical research and the Ronald McDonald House, among other exemplary efforts.

While her first marriage may not have been successful, Cindy Crawford is a wonderful example of celebrities who go on, following a divorce, to find happiness and successful careers!

Celebrity Divorces and Separations: Katy Perry and Russell Brand

Did you hear the latest Hollywood news?  According to various news reports, a California judge has signed documents which will grant a divorce filed late last year by British comedian Russell Brand from a talented American singer, Katy Perry.

Technically, it appears that, under California divorce law, the divorce may not be final for another six months.  But, according to news reports, at least the divorce terms have been approved.  Coincidentally, Katy's new hit single is entitled, "The One That Got Away."

While, over the years, there have been many celebrity marriage success stories, this appears to be another example of how Hollywood careers can really put stress on celebrity marriages.  Here's hoping that they both have moved on and that they will find happiness and continued success in their respective careers.

Divorce and Your Health

[Photo of Eva Longoria from wikipedia]
As Augusta, Georgia divorce lawyers, we often see many ways in which a divorce can impact peoples' lives.  One way involves your health.  Many women (and men) reportedly suffer from stress-related illnesses both during and following their divorces.

For example, according to various reports, Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria has recently admitted that, following her divorce from basketball star Tony Parker, she experienced a significant weight-loss problem.  But she added that she has overcome this problem through a new diet and exercise program.

You can overcome your problems following a divorce, too!

Celebrity Divorces and Separations: Lindsey Vonn and Thomas Vonn

[Photo of Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn from wikipedia]
As Augusta, Georgia divorce lawyers, we help people get through both difficult and relatively easy divorces, including both contested and uncontested divorces.  Divorces can be a major distraction in clients' daily lives.

But sometimes, going through a divorce will not be as big a distraction, for some people, as some people might think.  For example, various news reports indicate that America's fantastic Olympic gold medalist, Lindsey Vonn, skied one of her best downhill races ever this past weekend at a World Cup event in Alberta, Canada.

Just a week or so earlier, Ms. Vonn had reportedly filed for divorce from her ski coach and husband, Thomas Vonn, after a four-year marriage.  And yet, she then managed to win one of her finest races on the slopes!  While her divorce may, (or may not), still be difficult, the point is that she still somehow managed to cope and not to allow it to be a distraction on the slopes.

Again, I guess her example illustrates the fact that each divorce is different and that divorce affects people in different ways.  Do you believe women cope better than men during a divorce?  What do you think?

Celebrity Divorces and Separations: Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

[Photo of Kim Kardashian from wikipedia]
Wow!  I am sure you have heard the various news reports, by now, indicating that model and reality star Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from her pro basketball husband, Kris Humphries, after only 72 days of marriage.  According to reports, the divorce filing by Ms. Kardashian cites "irreconcilable differences."

Again, Ms. Kardashain has filed for divorce after only 72 days!  What is your opinion?  Isn't it possible, in some marriages, that some spouses realize, early on, that a mistake has occurred, and that it is best to end a marriage sooner, rather than later?  Are there other possible reasons?  Are there better solutions?  What do you think?

Celebrity Divorces and Separations: James Marsden and Lisa Linde

[Photo of James Marsden from wikipedia]
Well, it appears that another Hollywood marriage has bitten the dust.  According to various news reports, Lisa Linde, the spouse of actor James Marsden since 2000, filed for divorce last week from the popular actor and star of Straw  Dogs and the X-Men films.  The couple have two children.  Ms. Linde is the daughter of famous country music singer Dennis Linde.

According to a representative for the couple, while the marriage may be broken, the couple will remain "good friends."  That statement sounds good, doesn't it?  But is it really true?

Hopefully, they will, in fact, remain "good friends."  Don't you agree that it is possible for a divorcing couple, at a minimum, to at least mildly tolerate each other, for the sake of their children?

Celebrity Separations and Divorces: Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher

I am sorry I have been away from the blogging world for the past week!  As an Augusta, Georgia divorce lawyer, (who also handles personal injury, criminal defense, and countless other legal matters), I have really been busy! I feel like I have been jumpin' and steppin' on alligators all week -- with both feet!  But it's nice to be back to blogging!

Have you heard the news reports about an alleged potential split between Hollywood actors Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore?  You will have to read elsewhere about all the sordid allegations -- including allegations of adultery.  In fairness, probably no one in the entertainment media really knows the truth about such allegations.  But smut --whether true or not -- sells rags, doesn't it?  However, in any event, such smutty allegations are not the point of this post, anyway.

The point of this post is that, as the Moore-Kutcher marriage has clearly demonstrated, (at least, until now), marriages between older women and younger men can, and do, work.  As you may know, Ms. Moore is 48; Ashton Kutcher, the new star of Two and a Half Men, is only 33.  They have been married for 6 years.  So, no matter what happens between them now, don't you agree that this case shows that such marriages can work?  Put another way, does age really matter?  Do May-December romances really work?  What is your opinion?

Okay, now I must put back on my divorce attorney hat and commence steppin' on alligator heads again!
