CELEBRITY DIVORCES: TAREK AND CHRISTINA EL MOUSSA

According to Fox News, HGTV's Flip or Flop star, Tarek El Moussa, indicates that fame made his recent divorce from co-star Christina El Moussa a lot more complicated. The couple, who have two children, divorced last year, but they have continued working together on their popular HGTV series, which deals with house renovations or "flipping."

No doubt, El Moussa is correct in his assessment. All divorces can be tough, but just imagine how difficult it must be to go through a divorce while in the public spotlight.  According to El Moussa, they had to deal with things like "fake news" and reporting on all the difficulties they each confronted.

Here's hoping that both Tarek and Christina will find peace and happiness!  Their t.v. show is one of many good reasons to watch HGTV, in my opinion!

Divorce Hotels: A New Reality?

Are you a fan of reality shows?  Well, if Dutch entrepreneur Jim Halfens has his way, you may soon be able to watch a new reality show called the "Divorce Hotel!"  Halfens' proposed reality show about divorce is based upon his actual "divorce hotels," which are presently located throughout The Netherlands.

The premise is fairly simple:  Couples check in (separately) to the lavish "divorce hotel" on a friday and then leave divorced by the end of the weekend.  The guests can meet with mediators, lawyers, and other professionals, who attempt to make divorce more pleasant in a luxurious hotel setting.

According to news reports, Halfens supposedly invited Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher to be his guests, but the couple reportedly did not respond.

As an Augusta, Georgia divorce attorney, (see here), I must admit that I find Halfens' idea of a "divorce hotel" to be somewhat intriguing.  But because divorces can often be complicated matters, particularly when child custody and complex property division issues are present, I personally doubt whether this idea will work for most people.  

Also, there is the matter of cost.  According to news reports, the "divorce hotel" experience can run from $3500 to $10,000.00.  That is simply beyond the means of most people.

But again, even if I, as a divorce lawyer, never send any clients to a divorce hotel, (and Halfens plans to open "divorce hotels" in the United States soon), I can still possibly sit back, like you, and watch his proposed new "divorce hotel" reality show on t.v. in the fall!

Celebrity Divorces and Separations: Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman

According to various news reports, actress Debra Messing, star of the popular t.v. sitcom Will & Grace, separated earlier this year from her husband of ten years, Daniel Zelman.  The couple has one son.

This appears to be yet another example of a Hollywood couple which has quietly separated this year without immediately attracting media attention.

As you probably know, Ms. Messing has had a number of major acting roles and has also won an Emmy for her fine work.  I especially enjoyed her portrayal of Lisa Kramer in the Ben Stiller comedy, Along Came Polly.  You will recall that Messing's character cheated with the French scuba instructor, (played by actor Hank Azaria), while on a honeymoon with her (movie) husband, Reuben Feffer, (played by Stiller).

Hopefully, Ms. Messing (and her soon-to-be ex), will each continue to find happiness and success in their respective careers.
